Real Name: Remy LeBeau

See also the Witness (possible future identity).

A mutant, Remy LeBeau possesses the superhuman ability to charge inanimate objects with explosive energy, creating short-fuse time bombs. Growing up an orphan in Louisiana, he was adopted by the leader of the Louisiana Thieves Guild after he attempted to pick the man’s pockets. He was trained to be a master thief, and it was decided that he would wed Bella Donna, a member of the Louisiana Assassin Guild to unite the two longtime warring factions. When LeBeau failed to go through with the ceremony, he was ejected from his brotherhood and more or less thrown out of the state. Wandering aimlessly, LeBeau ended up New York City, where he helped Mr. Sinister to put together the Marauders; however, Sinister immediately used them to commit massacre the Morlocks who dwelt in the sewers beneath New York City, and Gambit vowed to keep his part in the tragedy a secret for as long as he lived. Gambit eventually joined the X-Men, where he found love with his teammate Rogue. This nearly fell apart when she absorbed his memories and learned the truth of his secret past. Some time later, LeBeau was abandoned in the wilds of Antarctica after being tried for his part in the Massacre in a kangaroo court presided over by Magneto, in the guise of Eric the Red. His life was saved when he was possessed by a mysterious life force, which led him to civilization and safety. LeBeau was also finally paid for his part in the Massacre when Sinister gave him a small silver vial, but its contents have not yet been revealed. Due to his possible future existence as the Witness, LeBeau was thought for years by Bishop to be the person who betrayed the X-Men and led to the future Sentinel enslavement of North America. The traitor was eventually revealed to be Charles Xavier himself, in the guise of Onslaught, but LeBeau’s possible life in the far future has yet to be explained or even confirmed.

Although he can use his power to charge any inanimate object, LeBeau prefers to use common playing cards as his weapons of choice, and he can throw them with uncanny precision. He also frequently carries a retractable bow staff. Lebeau also possesses slightly superhuman agility.

LeBeau has brown hair and glowing red eyes. He an occasional member of the X-Men, and a former member of the Louisiana Thieves Guild. He is also Rogue’s on-and-off lover.
