Reaal Name: Erik Lensherr. Alias Magnus.

As a young boy growing up in Nazi Germany, Erik Lensherr witnessed firsthand one of the darkness points in human history. As he grew into manhood, Lensherr discovered that he was a mutant, possessing vast control over the Earth's magnetic fields. He became a close friend of Gabrielle Haller and Charles Xavier (later Professor X), and shared many ideas with Xavier about the future of mutantkind; Lensherr also fathered three children, who would grow up to become Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff), the Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) and Polaris (Lorna Dane). Lensherr and Xavier soon diverted in their beliefs, with Lensherr persuing the goal of mutant domination over humanity under the name of Magneto. Lensherr was opposed by Xavier's X-Men, a team that he countered by forming the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Lensherr also created the first of a number of space-borne bases which he referred to as Asteroid M. In the aftermath of one battle with the X-Men, Lensherr was reduced to a state of infancy. Returned to adulthood by Moira MacTaggert, Lensherr vowed to make amends for his past crimes, even becoming the leader of the X-Men. Lensherr later discovered that his "change of heart" was a result of MacTaggert tampering with his genetic material, and he returned to his terroristic ways. In a later battle with the X-Men, Lensherr ripped the adamantium off of Wolverine's skeleton, nearly killing him. In retaliation, Xavier telepathically wiped away Lensherr's memories, inadvertently taking Lensherr's darkest emotions into himself. Lensherr disappeared, and months later the fermenting evil within Xavier caused the previously noble man to become Onslaught. Lensherr returned with a vengeance, holding the world hostage with the threat of nuclear war until the United Nations appeased him by giving him control of the former mutant-slave nation of Genosha. Biding his time, Lensherr secretly plotted to begin World War Three from his throne, but when he made the mistake of abducting Xavier, Lensherr was attacked by a makeshift team of X-Men. Recovering from wounds received when he was impaled on Wolverine's claws, Lensherr was seemingly killed when the country was annihilated by Cassandra Nova's wild Sentinels. He remained missing in action when Xorn began impersonated him, becoming the second Magneto and taking over Manhattan before being killed by Wolverine. Lensherr finally did reemerge soon after to take custody of his daughter Wanda after she suffered a nervous breakdown and devastated her teammates in the Avengers before having her mind magically turned off by Dr. Strange. Whether Lensherr was in hiding since Genosha's destruction or was somehow returned to life by Wanda is unknown, and probably will always remain so. Putting all thoughts of mutant supremacy aside, Lensherr brought his daughter to Xavier in the ruins of Genosha, and the two worked to somehow psychically heal her. Shortly afterwards, Wanda drastically altered reality (transforming it into what is colloquially referred to as the "House of M" reality). It was commonly believed that Lensherr had convinced her to act, due to his position in the new world as one of the most powerful leaders on a mutant-dominated Earth; in truth, it has just been discovered that Wanda had in fact been coerced by her brother, Lensherr's son Pietro.

Lensherr possesses vast control over the magnetic fields of the Earth. Besides the obvious control he could exert over ferous metals, Lensherr can also use the power to fly and create defensive shields. Lensherr has white hair.

Lensherr is the founder of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a former member of the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle, the Twelve, and the Genoshan "Excalibur". He is also the former leader of the X-Men and the New Mutants, both of which happened after he was genetically influenced by Moira MacTaggert. Lensherr is worshipped and followed by the Acolytes. Lensherr is the father of Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch and Polaris, Crystal and the Vision's former father-in-law and Luna's grandfather and Rogue's former lover.
